After a relatively long period of not using the electric guitar in a noise context, I’ve decided to make it my main sound source.
It was a 10-minute set with my friend, Auji, the vocalist of my favourite Singapore band, <<<30s. Her approach to noise is both cinematic and vigourous; already looking forward to the next time we can make music together.
We played at Phil’s Studio, a recent venue staple in Singapore’s musical landscape. The caveat are policies and protocols that limit output volume in order to protect the venue’s equipment; this makes it somewhat difficult for heavier bands and artists to express their ideas the way intended; I opted to circumvent this by bringing my own amp, the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, and the results were optimal.
I also tested some new techniques: the use of bao ding balls, riffs instead of drones, and a Whammy Ricochet which, I’m sure, will now be a permanant fixture on my board.
Other bands that played include Tools Of The Trade, Derita Terus, Unvisual, Nuurisk, Distrust, Garapal and Jahil 7.
